Truth: Sometimes I pick up products and materials for projects and never make them.  In this case it was an essential oil.  A while ago I went out in search of a citrusy essential oil with the game plan to recreate cooling towels the Bikram yoga studio I was attending at the time handed out post class. Their cool towels were so refreshing I thought they’d be great to have on hand at home when I needed to relax.  Needless to say, I picked up the oil, sorta forgot about it until this past week and decided to switch up the original game plan with a grapefruit sugar scrub.  Perfect for an at home spa day, this grapefruit sugar scrub is so easy to make.  With three key ingredients and three easy steps, you’ll be ready to pamper yourself to smooth skin in no time.  This scrub makes a perfect gift when packaged up in a small mason jar.

Supplies
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 – 8 drops of grapefruit essential oil
  • Mason Jar or other air tight container
preparations
  • In a microwave safe bowl, briefly heat coconut oil (about 20 seconds)
  • Mix sugar into the melted oil and stir until well combined
  • Add essential oil and mix
  • Opptional – zest grapefruit over finished scrub
  • Pack into mason jar

I used Tisserand Grapefruit Essential oil, found here.  You can swap out the grapefruit for any oil or scent you may prefer. Some of my other faves are lavender, peppermint, or any citrus. Grapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And BraidsGrapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And BraidsGrapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And BraidsGrapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And BraidsGrapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And BraidsGrapefruit Sugar Scrub_Twine And Braids

I packed up my scrub in a small mason jar and labeled in with a wooden tag.  You can also label the top of the lid using chalk and chalkboard paint following the DIY here.  These would make adorable favors for a bridal or baby shower!

Enjoy!

    1. Hi Meg. I’m using your recipe for sugar scrub for Cait’s favor jars at her bridal shower in 2 weeks. I told your mom I was going to buy it from Wegman’s and she flipped out – now I know why! We’re also going to try our hand at making our own floral designs from the supermarket bunches as you suggested. I’ll let you know if I could handle this…
