Hi, my name is Meghan and tequila is my frenemy but I’ll never turn down a margarita. Seriously, one of Erick and my favorite spots in Jersey City is Taqueria. They have the best margaritas and cactus tacos. Nothing Better. So when I was thinking about a refreshing cocktail for this hot and humid weekend I knew I wanted to do my take on the classic margarita. We’ve been growing basil all summer and up until this point I’ve been using it sparingly. I’ll be drying a bunch for seasoning but wanted to incorporate what was left into a cocktail. This blueberry basil margarita is the perfect summer drink – and full of antioxidants!
ingredients
makes one serving but can easily be increased
- Sea salt for the rim
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1 tablespoon agave nectar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 4-5 basil leaves
- 2 ounces tequila
- 1 tablespoon triple sec
- Additional blueberries, basil leaves and lime wedges for garnish
preparations
Wipe a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip in the sea salt, set aside. In a cocktail shaker (I don’t have one so a mason jar worked just as well) muddle together the blueberries, agave nectar, lime juice and basil leaves. Add in tequila, triple sec and a hand full of ice cubes. Shake well until cold and pour into your prepared glass. Garnish with blueberries, basil and a lime wedge.
Enjoy!
