Garden Baby Shower

You know when you’re planning a party and you decide, “I’m just going to keep it simple.  We’ll have it at the house, set up outside.  It’ll be casual.  No big deal”.  Then you start pulling together the guest list, thinking about a menu, panicking about the weather and looking around your house at everything you need to clean and get ready.  Suddenly, you’re regretting not booking a restaurant.  That’s sorta how this shower went.  Luckily for me, I have parents who are always willing and able to take on the challenge to host such events.

I knew I wanted my baby shower in my parents backyard surrounded by flowers and greenery.  Thankfully we lucked out with great weather so that could happen.  My parents worked to ensure their gardens and plants were up to par, I lent a hand where I could in adding some additional decor, lemon lavender cake and baby block activity for guests.garden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braids

Menu

The shower started early, so we put together a menu to match;  breakfast quiche, bagels and lox, green salad with grilled chicken were the main players.  It was a hot day so we made sure to have all of the fixings for mimosas, mixed up a batch of peach sangria, along with plenty of virgin options.  Dessert starred a mix of breakfast pastries, cookies and a lemon lavender cake.garden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braids

activities

I wasn’t into any standard baby shower games, so instead we put together a baby block activity.  My mom and I prepped 2 x 2 inch wood blocks by painting them ahead of time and cutting out imagines from Peter Rabbit books.  Guests could decoupage the pictures onto the blocks.  I am planning to use these in the nursery.  They will most likely be decorative but I still made sure to use baby safe paint.  I definitely recommend ECOS paint.  You can order 2oz samples or free color chips from their website.  I love how these turned out and can’t wait to add them to the nursery.

My mom made the adorable BABY letters using twigs and twine! Apple didn’t fall far from the tree over here.garden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braids

DIY

Making the hanging hoops was a quick and easy project.  I picked up a few wooden embroidery hoops in different sizes and collected leafy greens from around the yard.  I clustered and arranged the greens a bit haphazardly and secured them with green floral wire.  We hung them with twine at varying heights from the tent to act as a backdrop.  I’m thinking I’ll re-create one with faux florals for the nursery.garden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsThis was truly a special day for both Erick and I, and our soon to arrive baby girl. We felt so much love and support from family and friends which is so reassuring when you’re getting ready to welcome you’re first baby and you feel like you’re terribly unprepared!garden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braidsgarden baby shower_twine and braids

I’m planning to put up the recipe for the lemon lavender cake in a separate post – stay tuned!

Enjoy!
