Hand Painted Globe

October 30, 2015

I’ve wanted to take on this globe project for a while but have had a difficult time allowing myself to actually paint on a globe.  I just think there are certain pieces that are best left in their original state. That is, however, until I found this globe in the clearance section.  It came with some chips and imperfections so I felt compelled to give it new life.  In just a few steps; a layer or two of paint, some lettering with a metallic paint pen, and a touch of gold leafing, this globe was quickly transformed into the perfect decor piece.

4_globe_14_globe_244_globe_8I picked up this globe from Home Goods, but you can find similar here and here.  For the base paint I used Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint in “Deep Sea” found here.  You’ll also need a metallic paint pengold leaf and an adhesive pen.

4_globe_10I needed two coats to fully cover the previous design.  Next up, lettering.

TIP! To ensure I was centered (and spelled everything correctly) I first wrote out the phrase in chalk then went over with the paint pen.  Any excess chalk easily wipes clean.

4_globe_25The gold leafing was sporadic (and messy) but I loved the final product.

Enjoy!
