Winter Citrus Cocktail

December 4, 2015

If we’re being honest, when I think “winter cocktail” I usually think of something along the lines of an eggnog or a mulled wine.  Maybe a chocolate martini garnished with a candy cane or even a hot toddy.  But a grapefruit concoction? -usually not on the top of my holiday drink list.  This winter citrus, however, creates a light and refreshing drink that I’d be happy enjoy in the winter, and year round.  It’s a mix of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, gin and seltzer. To give it more of a festive feel, I decided to garnish with cranberries and a sprig of rosemary (because I think it looks like pine needles).7_winter cocktail_17

Sparkling Grapefruit Cocktail

Makes 4 servings

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (about 2 medium size grapefruits)
  • 1 1/2 cups plain (unflavored) seltzer
  • 1/2 gin
  • Cranberries and rosemary for garnish
  1. Mix together grapefruit juice, seltzer and gin in a pitcher
  2. Pour over ice and garnish

Don’t have a bag full of varying holiday ribbons like me (I can’t be the only one)? – another quick idea is to use washi tape.  Cut small portions of the tape, write each guests name with a sharpie and place on their glass.  At the end of the evening the washi tape will cleanly peel off.7_winter cocktail_267_winter cocktail_297_winter cocktail_20

This recipe had been adapted with a few healthy swaps and additions from the original seen here.

Enjoy!
